It has become much too simple to ignore the beauty of individuals who are aging gracefully in a culture that values women’s youth more than anything else.
Therefore, the Russian modeling agency has chosen to embrace the beauty of aging in a series of breathtaking photographs, while Hollywood is busy airbrushing, botoxing, and face-lifting in a fruitless attempt to slow down the unavoidable march of time.
This agency, appropriately dubbed Oldushka, represents models from the age of 45 and older, and in some cases, up to 85. The next obstacle to be overcome is age, even if the fashion industry now seems to be coming to terms with variety in model sizes and race.
The firm was founded as a result of photographer Igor Gavar’s initiative, which documented retiree fashion for his blog, also known as Oldushka. The majority of the models are over 60 years old, while Sergey, the lone male model, is just 45.
Older Oldushka models frequently appear in popular catalogs and advertising campaigns in Russia. Will it encourage other nations to follow suit and appreciate the positive aspects of becoming older as well? We’ll see.
