Nearly 5 Million Blue Flowers Bloom Across Japanese Field, Resembling A Fairy Tale

Mother Nature makes sure to employ the most magnificent colours and tints when she chooses to paint a portrait.
We just experienced the fascinating early arrival of Japan’s renowned cherry blossoms in February, which was only a few months ago.

Now that May is almost here, the blossoms’ delicate pink colours have faded. The formerly pink Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki Prefecture is now covered in blue owing to a recent nemophila flower bloom, which will delight individuals who appreciate the beauty of nature in landscapes.

Its five-lobed, wheel-shaped blooms, which can grow up to 4 cm (1.5 inches) wide and range in color from blue to white and may have blue veins, are known to as “baby blue eyes” and belong to a genus of annual herbs in the family Boraginaceae. The leaves have five to nine lobes each. The sometimes creeping plants have a 50 cm maximum height.

The small floral plants, which are normally found across Japan, bloom around the end of spring (and even in California). The annual arrival of the blossoms in Hitachi Seaside Park has made them particularly well-known.

Every year, nearly 4 million nemophila bloom atop Miharashi Hill in the park, creating a stunning display of rolling, apparently endless color. Miharashi Hill, the highest point on the property, provides panoramic views of the surrounding area, which at this time of year is also awash in nemophila, Technicolor tulips, and yellow rapeseed blooms.

The 30,000 green Kochia bushes in the park turn red in the fall. Christmas rose, licorice, and nerine trees, among others, blossom all year round.

There is a lot of variation at Hitachi Seaside Park. You may stroll through the area’s various flower and rock gardens or use the dune pathways to walk along the seashore. The Miharashi Hill and a herb garden both provide breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and the Pacific Ocean.

One thing is for certain: the scenery and the flowers make you feel as though you are walking through a fairy tale.
